Update on yellow-legged (Asian) hornet

This is an update on yellow-legged hornet (also known as Asian hornet) sightings in GB. 19 nests have been found this year.

The National Bee Unit are continuing to monitor areas in Southampton, Hampshire and Great Maxfield, East Sussex where nests were previously located and destroyed. They are planning to discontinue their regular updates but will provide an update about action on yellow-legged hornet if there is further news to share.

Information on previous sightings, including a map of nest locations, can be found on the website of the National Bee Unit

We would be grateful for your support in helping to raise awareness and encourage reporting of any further sightings. Any suspected sightings should ideally be reported via the Asian Hornet Watch app or the online reporting form.

For more details on identification and reporting, including Alert posters and ID sheets to help with awareness raising, please visit the Asian hornet alert page.
